About:
Emily began formal ikebana study 6+ years ago as an apprentice under Japanese-Canadian ikebana master Joan (Masako) Fairs.
As a certified Instructor of Sangetsu ikebana and proud member of Sangetsu North America, the Vancouver Ikebana Association (V.I.A.), and Ikebana International, she believes in approaching ancient practice with deep respect and gratitude, while engaging thoughtfully with the lineage and community that have shaped her development.
Over time, her work has expanded into contemporary floral art, including commercial work, branded partnerships, and bespoke events.
Through arrangements and site-specific installations, Matick interrogates the tension between structure and impermanence, the dialogue between natural materials and spatial context, and the ways tradition intersects with contemporary expression. Her work emphasizes restraint, negative space, and the ephemerality of organic forms, inviting attentive, reflective encounters.
